Holiday Cottage Reviews

"We spent Christmas at The old Forge and it was perfect. It had everything that we needed and in a fabulous location. The cottage was very warm, it was clean and very spacious with plenty of hot water.

We enjoyed looking out of the front arched window and we think that's how Father Christmas managed to leave the children's presents!! A lovely cottage that gave us a magical Christmas.

We also recommend The Exmoor White horse inn. It's wonderful food. Cosy bar and outstanding management and team."

""We very much enjoyed the amenities that Exford provided: the shop, the tea room, the two thriving pubs . The location of the cottage also enabled us to set off in a different direction each day to explore the moor.

The cottage offers a very comfortable place to stay. The lounge has a delightful aspect over the village green, the kitchen and double bedroom are of a very good size for a cottage. There was a good range of equipment. We very much enjoyed our stay at the Old Forge."

"We had a weeks holiday in this lovely holiday cottage. A good sized cottage with two bedrooms and two ensuite bathrooms. The beds are very comfortable. All amenities are supplied in the cottage. Good views on to the village green. It is ideally located for walks in Exmoor and the coast is not far away. There are many walks you can do by just stepping out of the door. There are two pubs that do excellent food in walking distance and a lovely 1950's style tea shop that does great cream teas. The owner was very helpful , the weather was great, which always helps we would recommend to friends."

"Had a very easy stay at the Old Forge and enjoyed every minute. Perfectly located not only for highly enjoyable car trips across the moor but also for Exford's two splendid pubs...The Crown and White Horse, both just steps away where you can enjoy the friendly atmosphere with a pint or five of the fabulous local brews and excellent 'no nonsense' menus. Right opposite the arched window of Old Forge is Exford green. Perfect for the little ones with assorted play machines including a zip line that parents will also find entertaining, especially after a couple of 'Exmoor Golds'. Trips out of town? Well the possibilities seem endless. We kept saying over the course of the week that we'd re-visit certain sites but didn't find it necessary. Perhaps if we'd stayed a month Ilfracombe, Lynton and Porlock Weir might have been seen again. To finish, Tess (the owner of Old Forge) was a pleasure to deal with and we could not recommend enough."

"My wife and I, alongside a friend, stayed here for 3 nights over Easter. The pictures don't do justice to the cottage - it is really beautiful, spacious and bright. The cottage was very warm and the beds were great to sleep on after all day walking on the many walking trails in Exmoor. The cottage is in a great location - in the heart of Exmoor. We look forward to returning soon!

The village shop was useful but didnt have much in the way of wine! I'd recommend the Budgens at Wheddon Cross Convenience Store (approw 5 miles along B3224).

"Comfy beds, great bathroom, large country style kitchen. A great pub 50 metres each side of the front door and country store also within 50 metres. Great location, surrounded by beautiful countryside, not far to lovely walks, Tsar Steps and the Robot Ice cream. Perfect."

"This cottage is in a very convenient postion right in the heart of the village of Exford. It is very clean and cared for with excellent beds and bedding with two bathrooms, ideal as if like us we were two couples who are friends. It has all the facilities you need and very nice touch was the bread, butter, tea, coffee and milk for our arrival. The village has two very good Pubs/Hotels both serving a wide variety of food. The locals were friendly and offered suggestions on where to visit. If you are a 'walker' this are is ideal for you.

"The Old Forge is ideally located for exploring Exmoor. Either 20 minutes to the coast or 10 minutes to the moors for fantastic walking. The village of Exford has all you need for supplies, 2 good pubs and a village shop. The cottage itself is well appointed and comfortable with 2 bathrooms a large kitchen and a good sitting room for sprawling after a long days walk."

"Great location in the middle of Exford and everything you need. Accommodation was very clean, tidy and my dog Diesel very happy especially with the view from the front window which overlooked the village green and it was also his height! Able to park right outside. Cooked Christmas dinner and found it very easy with all the equipment/cooking facilities. Lovely to have plenty of towels and 2 bathrooms. Enjoyed the hunt on Boxing Day. Would most definately return to stay again.
